Centres of Excellence under the National Rare Disease Programme are government-notified tertiary care institutions identified for their expertise in diagnosing, treating, and managing rare diseases.
These centres are recognised by the Government of India based on available clinical genetics services, multidisciplinary care, advanced diagnostics, and long-term patient follow-up facilities.
These Centres of Excellence function as regional referral hubs.
They play a crucial role in reducing diagnostic delay, coordinating complex care, guiding treatment decisions, and facilitating access to support mechanisms under the National Policy for Rare Diseases.
